Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas Nevada

Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas
Nevada

Siobhan

After a lot of fun at Disneyland, Six Flags and copious amounts of shopping it was time to leave LA and head north in search of snow and delicious foods. Lake Tahoe sits on the boarder of California and Nevada so i thought it would be appropriate to try and work it in-between my California and Nevada posts. The drive from LA to Lake Tahoe is amazing and more so if you have the time to go throughout Yosemite National Park. Lake Tahoe is the largest Alpine lake in North America and sits at a surface elevation of 6,225 ft. Unfortunately the snow was less then average so i decided to focus more on food. Like any other ski town it is filled to the brim with Bars, Pubs, Restaurants and everything in between. One pub quickly became my favourite so much so that i returned there 3 out of the 5 nights i stayed in Tahoe. McDuffs pub is a little bit out of the centre township and set a block back from the main road. It is hands down some of the best food i have ever eaten, the menu is relatively small but every dish is a winner, especially the truffled mac and cheese. It has a really warm, relaxed and friendly vibe, think hard wood floors, interesting decor and cheerful staff. I couldn't think of anything better after a hard day of skiing or boarding.

VIA LAS VEGAS!!!! There are many things to be said about Las Vegas but at the end of the day there is really nothing quite like it. Essentially it is just two roads of lights and luxury set in the middle of the dessert. Of course you know it all already, alcohol, gambling and buffets are all that really matters when you go to Vegas. So lets get straight down to it. Buffets, Las Vegas is famous for them and rightly so. Every casino has them and they are all trying to outdo each other. I would suggest you buy a 24 hour buffet pass which allows you to into 8 different buffets located on the strip and try as many as you can in 24 hours.

I had been told by several people that Planet Hollywood had the best buffet and although it ended up being my favourite of all the casinos, it wasn't because of the food. The best in my opinion is Paris and not only because everything is themed. Everything was fresh and well set out which is very important in a buffet. The staff were friendly and helpful and they never ran out of anything. I said it before and i will say it again there really is nothing like Las Vegas.
